Watashi wa Hoka no Dare mo Aisanai (私は他の誰も愛さない , I Won't Love Anyone Else) was originally a love song taught to the previous "Flame-Haired Burning-Eyed Hunter" Mathilde Saint-Omer by a dandy in Aquitaine who was trying to woo her during the Middle Ages.
Background[]
When Mathilde activates "God's Power Summoning" Tenpa Jōsai (神威召喚 "天破壌砕" Shin'i Shōkan Tenpa Jōsai ) during the final decisive battle of the Great War of the Middle Ages, she changes the lyrics to reflect her feelings towards Alastor.[1]
It was later passed on to Shana through Wilhelmina.[2] Shana sings the song after her feelings had gotten through to Yūji Sakai as the two pass through the "Heaven Stairs" (天梯 Tentei ) and begin their journey to the New World Xanadu.[3]
When Alastor learned of the song, he was so upset by the fact that Mathilde had been wooed that he didn't remember the song's title, later being ridiculed by Wilhelmina and Tiamat when Shana was taught the song.
Lyrics[]
Atarashī atsui uta o watashi wa tsukurou
Kaze ga fuki ame ga ori shimo ga oriru sono mae ni
Waga koibito wa watashi o tamesu
Watashi ga kare o don'nani aishiteiru ka
Don'na isakai no tane o makoutomo muda
Watashi wa kono kizuna o toki wa shinai
Kaette watashi wa koibito ni subete o atae subete o yudaneru
Sō kare no mono to natte mo kamawanai
Yotteiru nazo to wa omoi tamou na
Watashi ga ano utsukushī honō o aishiteirukara to itte
Watashi wa kare nashi ni wa ikirarenai
Kare no ai no soba ni ite sorehodo watashi wa mitasareteiru
I'll make a new, hot song.
Before the wind blows, the rain falls, and the frost falls,
My lover tests me.
I love him, so much so,
That it's useless no matter what seeds of dispute are sown,
I won't unravel this bond.
Rather, I will give my lover everything, and entrust them with everything.
Yes, I don't mind becoming his.
Don't think of me as drunk.
Even though I love that beautiful Flame,
I can't live without him.
Being beside his love, with only that, am I fulfilled.
The last line of the song was not completed by Mathilde before she died from the effects of Tenpa Jōsai. In Shakugan no Shana X Extra Edition, the last line was "Being beside his love, for only that, am I starved" (彼の愛の傍にいて それほど私は飢えている Kare no ai no soba ni ite sorehodo watashi wa ueteiru ), which differs from the version sung by Shana.
Trivia[]
- The song is based on a love song known as Farai chansoneta nueva (I shall write a new little song), which was written and composed by William IX, Duke of Aquitaine, who is known as the earliest troubadour.[4]
- The version of the last line of Watashi wa Hoka no Dare mo Aisanai from Shakugan no Shana X Extra Edition is more similar to Farai chansoneta nueva than the version sung by Shana.
