"What an immense size...... This is The Great One...... Truly fitting to contain this lordly body of mine, the "Flame of Heaven"......"
—Alastor during the Flame Haze contract ritual.[1]

The Great One (偉大なる者 Idainaru Mono?) is a concept referring to the Flame Haze whose size of their "Vessel Known as Destiny" far exceeds their Crimson Lord' existence without staying in a hibernate-like state to fit inside the contractor's body.

Unlike other Flame Haze, the Great One has no disadvantage against weapons that could break the hibernation like Trigger Happy, since the Great One's Vessel will not break under the true size of their contracted Crimson Lord.

The only Great One appears in the story is Shana, whose "Vessel Known as Destiny" is exceptionally large that it could contain the Crimson God of Retribution Alastor in his full manifestation without being destroyed.

Background[]

The Great One, as the name suggests, was destined to become a person who has very great influence over the world, supposedly greater than those from royalties, since Friagne believed that he could finish off Khamsin (who was a prince) with a single shot from Trigger Happy.[2]

In Shana's case, Alastor explained that should she not becoming a Flame Haze, she would have become: an artist who carves her name in history; a politician who shakes the whole nation; a warrior who bravely rushes into battlefields; a criminal who wins the hearts of wrongdoers; or the mother of such people.[3]

Shana's capacity as a Vessel for Alastor is plenty enough to hold his existence without having to go into hibernate-like state; this was apparent when she was shot by Trigger Happy. In normal cases, a Flame Haze's Vessel would be destroyed when their contracted Crimson Lord has awaken, returning to their true, immense size. But Alastor was forced to come out of her body but still able to manifest without destroying Shana's body (which is visually similar to Marchosias's manifestation when Margery Daw lost control of her power but was subdued in time). After that, he was able to return to hibernate-like state inside Shana's body again.

Trivia[]

  • Friagne commented that there are no Flame Haze other than Shana who could withstand Trigger Happy. If there are others before this, he would not be that surprised.[4] However, since the term had already existed when Alastor made contract with Shana, this could be implied in two ways:
    • It was a theoretical term and Shana is truly the first Great One ever existed.
    • There were Great Ones before Shana, but they all perished before the creation of Trigger Happy in 1864.
