Stigma (スティグマ Sutiguma?) is the mysterious Unrestricted Spell that "Destructive Blade" Sabrac is famous for.

Background[]

Stigma is an Unrestricted Spell which was applied to all wounds inflicted on enemies by the swords Sabrac possessed. These swords did not have to be Treasure Tools. Stigma prevented inflicted wounds from healing and caused them to deepen and spread over time, ensuring most of Sabrac's battles swayed in his favor. Enemies who did not die from his first attack became fatigued at an accelerated rate and would eventually use up all their strength.

The effects of this Unrestricted Spell disappeared when far enough away from Sabrac. Therefore, enemies knew they had escaped from Sabrac when the effects of Stigma had ceased.

Stigma had previously never been defeated[1][2] and negated Flame Haze's healing abilities and recuperative Unrestricted Spells.[3] Margery Daw attempted with many different Unrestricted Spells to heal the wounds caused by Stigma to no avail. A nearly completed Insignia that the Unrestricted Spell Master "Eternal Lover" Johann had been developing for 2 years while evading Sabrac was eventually completed by "Manipulator of Objects" Wilhelmina Carmel after her own research and trial and error. This Insignia, the Stigma-breaking Insignia (スティグマ破りの自在式 Sutiguma-yaburi no Jizai-shiki?), was able to break Stigma's effect and led to Sabrac's defeat in Misaki City.

After that battle, Sabrac refined Stigma by strengthening it solely so it would be unbreakable. Stigmata (スティグマータ Sutigumāta?) was a version of Stigma that was no longer susceptible to the Stigma-breaking Insignia.

In the anime[]

Even when the effects of Stigma wore off, the wounds would still only heal with the enemies' own healing abilities. However, in the second season of the anime, the wounds appeared healed once Stigma was broken.

Trivia[]

  • Stigma resembles the abilities of Sabnock, the demon in the Ars Goetia Sabrac was named after. Sabnock could inflict men with wounds that would not heal due to gangrene or worms eating them.
