Mathilde and Wilhelmina began their battle with the "Pair of Wings", though Mathilde was deep in thought about Wilhelmina's unhappiness.
Summary[]
Mathilde charged at the "Pair of Wings", happy to again face the old rivals she had battled against dozens of times over the last 18 years. She gathered her power at her halberd and used it to summon an army of spear-wielding Knights. They advanced on Merihim but he pushed away all of their spears, pleased that Mathilde was going for the kill from the start. Putting all the spears under his arm, Merihim threw the first wave of Knights back. He used Rainbow's Heaven Sword to annihilate all the Knights, but Mathilde had vanished, ready to strike him from above. Merihim got Illuyanka to use Wall of Miasmal Screen to defend him. It intercepted Mathilde's attack, causing an explosion.

When the flames of the explosion dissipated, Mathilde saw that Merihim was no longer atop Illuyanka's head. She just barely reacted in time to the Rainbow's Heaven Sword coming down from above her, with her shield being destroyed as she barely dodged it. Wilhelmina grasped Mathilde with ribbons and dragged her through the air to barely avoid multiple Rainbow's Heaven Sword attacks. Wilhelmina and Tiamat thought that Mathilde was being even more impetuous than usual.
Mathilde thought about the state of the battle and the difficulty in getting to Brocken Fortress. Distance was irrelevant to Merihim's Rainbow's Heaven Sword so it was dangerous to fight him from afar, and to add to that, Illuyanka's Wall of Miasmal Screen was at present the hardest Unrestricted Spell and would render her long-range attacks useless. The only way to face them was at a distance where both sides could take each other out.
Alastor warned Mathilde and she and Wilhelmina evaded multiple Rainbow's Heaven Sword beams. Mathilde thought about how she was being cruel to Wilhelmina. After having fought together by chance 18 years ago, they had been together as friends ever since. Mathilde knew of Wilhelmina's feelings for Merihim and how she wanted him to pay attention to her. Even now, Wilhelmina used ribbons to deflect Illuyanka's Wall of Miasmal Screen rocket back at Merihim, who dodged it without looking at her. As Mathilde summoned an army of Knights, she thought that she could ease Wilhelmina's pain with this battle. As the "Pair of Wings" were fighting through the Knights, Mathilde considered defeating Merihim and making him stay with Wilhelmina. It might be meddlesome, but there was nothing else she could do. The two Flame Haze charged and Merihim slashed away Wilhelmina's ribbon attack. Mathilde didn't know if Wilhelmina wanted her to do that, and even if that were the case, she didn't know if it would make Wilhelmina happy. She wondered what happiness was for a Flame Haze.
