Crimson Oath I (紅蓮の宣誓 I Guren no Sensei I ) is the 58th chapter of the Shakugan no Shana manga series.
Yūji was saved by Margery and discovered that he had the power to detect the Rinne.
Summary[]

Margery and Marchosias surprised by Yūji.
As the vines approached, Yūji feared for his life and called out to Shana. The person who had grabbed him said that that name was unpleasant, before flying them away from the flower. Yūji turned around and saw that it was Margery. She asked what he was doing, as she thought he should be hiding because he couldn't do anything besides move within the Fūzetsu, but Yūji couldn't answer because she was choking him. Margery flew away with Yūji, thinking that an Unrestricted Spell Master like Tiriel could be observing them through the flower. She landed near the Mana River. Yūji explained that he had wanted to destroy the mechanism which was gathering Power of Existence, but didn't know that it was a Rinne. This surprised Margery and Marchosias, as Yūji had sensed the mechanism before it had activated. This was a special ability, as Yūji would be able to locate the hidden Rinne in the siblings' complicated and camouflaged Unrestricted Spell Insignia. Yūji was pleased to have a power that could help Shana. Margery asked him to cooperate with her, which would in turn help Shana. Yūji agreed and asked for details on the situation. Margery and Marchosias teased him for agreeing to face danger so quickly and thought he had fallen in love with Shana, and Yūji could only reply by coughing.
Sorath ditched Blutsauger and claimed the Nietono no Shana. Pleased, he hugged Tiriel and rewarded her for giving him the sword by kissing her. Watching them kiss, Shana was reminded of Chigusa's beliefs regarding kisses; they were a vow between two people that they can come close to and trust each other, a resolution which expresses a powerful and uncontrollable feeling. Shana was disgusted by the siblings' slobbering. Tiriel wanted to kill Shana for insulting her and Sorath's love previously, and hit Shana with a vine. Tiriel complained about having carefully set up Cradle Garden only for the fight to end with the first trap. She allowed Sorath to test the sword on Shana, and he planned to cut Shana up little by little. Sorath's first slash cut Shana's uniform and Alastor's pendant, with the Cocytus falling to the ground. Sorath liked the sword and Tiriel described how he would cut up Shana gradually like they had done to other Flame Haze, wondering how long Shana could survive. Sorath swung again, this time cutting Shana's undershirt. Shana thought that she could survive her skin being cut, but not her bones.
Margery was flying through the city with Yūji, who was hanging on to the Grimoire. She had told him that the Denizens were after Shana's sword. Margery explained that if they crushed all the Rinne that Yūji spotted, Sydonay would come and there would be a fight, so instead she would record where they were and what they looked like and would go to destroy them later. Yūji understood that he would be baggage for Margery if a fight broke out. Marchosias made a turn towards the next Rinne and Yūji fell off, but Margery caught him. Yūji saw the next Rinne and Margery relayed its location and appearance to Satō and Tanaka, though Yūji couldn't hear the boys talking, nor they him. Margery explained to Yūji that she had followers watching the city's situation in a place with a better view, and Marchosias refrained from introducing them. Yūji led them to the next Rinne. He wanted to do his best to help Shana.

Quotes[]
- Margery and Marchosias: "You sensed that a mechanism was there before it was activated!?"
- Marchosias (to Yūji): "Oh? You're awfully eager for something so dangerous."
Margery (to Yūji): "Huh? You've fallen for her?" - Tiriel (to Shana): "I'm the type to not forgive insults. Especially the kind that defiles the love between me and my Onii-sama."
- Sorath (to Tiriel): "Um, I'm going to cut her up little by little, then I'll finish her with the flame sword!"
- Tiriel (to Shana): "What's covering your meager chest is next. After that your skin. After that your bones. After that he'll cut off your internal organs one by one. It's how we often play with Flame Haze. How long can you survive?"
- Yūji (thinking): "These actions will benefit Shana. If even I can be useful to Shana, I have to play my role thoroughly."
Trivia[]
- When calling out to Shana, Yūji pictured her wearing the dress she wore in chapter 32.
- As she watched the siblings kissing, Shana contrasted the scene with Chigusa's explanation about the meaning of kisses, in chapter 42.
- Tiriel remembered how Shana had called her and Sorath unpleasant, in the previous chapter.
