Day of the Clash V (激突の日 V Gekitotsu no Hi V ) is the 51st chapter of the Shakugan no Shana manga series.
Ike confessed to his aiding of Yoshida and Yūji thought about his own feelings. Yoshida reflected on her handling of Ike's outburst and gained a new resolve.
Summary[]
Still together on the roof, Ike revealed to Yūji that it was actually Yoshida who had seen him with Shana that morning. Yūji remembered how Yoshida had looked depressed when coming to the roof. Ike was the one who had given Yoshida Yūji's umbrella, but he hadn't thought that this would happen. Yūji noted that even Ike made mistakes, and Ike apologized for getting angry at him. Yūji stated that what Ike had said about him was true, but he should have just told him and not involved Yoshida. Yūji knew Ike had uncharacteristically lost his cool because he had feelings for Yoshida. However, Yūji didn't know how that made him feel, whereas he got angry when Shana had been with another guy. He wondered what his feelings for Yoshida were, whether they were just happiness from her kindness, and also wondered how to recognize when you're in love. Yūji asked Ike if he liked Yoshida, and Ike remained silent. After a while, Yūji looked at Ike and discovered that he was frozen by an Unrestricted Spell which covered the city.
Yoshida ran through the school crying. She thought that she was foolish for yelling at Ike, when he wasn't at fault and she hadn't even been angry at him. Yoshida finally stopped next to a tree outside and crouched down. She felt that she should've asked Yūji about his feelings, but all along she had decided that she couldn't do it, and was just running away from asking. She detested herself for using her timidness as an excuse to rely on Ike, and in the end being jealous of Ike for being able to ask Yūji when she couldn't. Yoshida was scared because of how close Yūji and Shana were, and didn't want to risk wedging herself between them and destroying what little relationship she had with Yūji. Keeping her feelings to herself had resulted in the incident on the roof, to which she thought Ike would be angry and Yūji appalled.
Yoshida's decision to try her best when she told Yūji that she wouldn't lose wasn't a lie, and her feelings weren't so weak that they would disappear from seeing Yūji and Shana's closeness. She just wasn't determined or resolved enough. Even though Yoshida was scared to move forward, she would have to tell Yūji how she felt. She stood with new resolve and vowed not to lose. She turned and saw Shana across the field, vowing not to lose to her.

Quotes[]
- Yoshida (thinking): "If I'm sad, if I'm in pain, I should've asked how Sakai-kun felt myself. No. Just now, and up until now, I had decided, "I can't", and had been running away all this time. I was using my timidness as an excuse to rely on Ike-kun's kindness, and finally, I was jealous of Ike-kun's strength for being able to ask Sakai-kun, and I said those things. What a detestable girl I am."
- Yoshida (thinking): "I was scared... of how close they are."
- Yoshida (thinking): "I'd decided... to do my best. That's not a lie. I even told Sakai-kun, that I wouldn't lose. These feelings aren't so weak that they would disappear just from seeing how close they are. I couldn't do anything because I didn't have enough determination and resolution. If I don't like the way things are now, I have to throw my feelings out to Sakai-kun. I'm scared, but I can't move forward unless I do. Then, I have to do it. I won't lose. I won't lose. I won't lose. I won't lose to Yukari-chan. "
