Summary[]

Chigusa being approached by Shana.
Early in the morning, Chigusa was sweeping outside the house when Shana came over. She told Chigusa that Alastor wanted to talk to her and handed her a mobile phone. Chigusa had never used one before, but Shana assured her that it was already connected. Shana said that she would do her training with Yūji outside and would return before school started. Yūji, who was in the yard, thought about the coming confrontation between Alastor, the True Demon God of the Crimson Realm, and his mother. Shana called him, and the two left the house. When they were gone, Chigusa began talking to Alastor over the phone.

Yūji thinking about being alone with Shana for the first time.
On their walk, Yūji wondered what Alastor wanted to say. Shana said that Alastor would tell them if he wanted to and was fine with not asking him, as he may lie if they pressured him. Yūji thought about how this was the first time he had been truly alone with Shana. Shana began to run, saying there was something she wanted to show him.
Alastor and Chigusa talked very politely to each other, with Chigusa asking the reason for the call, thinking it would be a serious matter regarding Shana. She had been referring to Shana as Yukari Hirai, but Alastor allowed the use of the name Shana. Alastor's reason for calling was the love philosophy Chigusa had told Shana yesterday. Chigusa was embarrassed, but said it was a sign of Shana's trust in him that she had told him and mentioned that Shana was always proud when talking about him. This threw Alastor off, leaving him unable to threaten her to not tell Shana needless things like he had wanted to do, due to the pleasantness of the conversation. Chigusa said that Shana was a pure and good girl who had been raised very well, to which Alastor agreed, accidentally saying how she was devoted to her mission. Alastor asked Chigusa to refrain from saying things like she had done yesterday, which may lead to Shana coming into contact with Yūji in a way she wasn't ready for. Alastor figured that Chigusa was wise and would understand his concerns. Chigusa did understand, but wanted to discuss the matter more, for Shana's sake.

Shana's view of the Mana River.
Shana and Yūji arrived at the bank of the Mana River, where Shana showed off her favorite view. Water covered the parking lot on the man-made floodplain next to the river, so it looked as if the river, and the sky reflected off it, was twice as wide. Yūji was fascinated.
Chigusa agreed with Alastor that Shana was proud and strong, but also said parts of her were very young and brittle. She explained that Shana hadn't experienced the complexity and strength of human feelings and thoughts and didn't have the common sense to deal with them. Alastor thought to himself that Shana had been raised solely to carry out the Flame Haze mission. Shana couldn't deal with those feelings and could only get confused and flustered. Chigusa made an example that if Yūji came onto her, Shana might be too pure to be able to resist him. Chigusa had talked to Shana yesterday so that she would be able to deal with feelings and situations like that. Alastor still had doubts, saying that Shana's learning could be more gradual. Chigusa agreed, but thought that Shana was facing these problems now, and that girls were precocious, which came from her own experiences. She thought it was a good idea as sometimes Shana was defenseless, and thought it best that she be able to control her feelings as well as her partner's.
As the two looked at the view, Shana said that she knew of more great views, and Yūji desired to see them with her. He wasn't ready yet, but would do his best.
Alastor now felt that his request was thoughtless and revoked it, saying he had lived long but still had much to learn about humans. Chigusa tried to apologize as well but Alastor wanted her to continue watching over and helping Shana. Alastor hadn't expected Shana to need that kind of talk this soon, and both he and Chigusa thought she was too good for Yūji. Chigusa asked Alastor to scold Yūji for Shana's sake, which unbeknownst to her, he was already doing. Chigusa thought that Shana would find the right answer, and Alastor trusted her to do so as well.
Yūji and Shana returned home to find the mobile phone. Alastor told Shana to keep following Chigusa's advice and Yūji to try hard in order to not shame Chigusa, leaving them both confused.

Quotes[]
- Alastor (thinking): "What!? Thi, This is bad! Somehow this lady's unsettled me. "You shall not indoctrinate her with needless matters."... is what I should be strongly demanding. No matter how pleasant it is... to think that I was amused by a pointless conversation!!"
- Chigusa: "You've taken great care in raising her. She's very pure, and a good child."
Alastor: "Of course. She is a precious child who I took care in raising. Proud, strong, she burns for her mission." - Yūji (looking at Shana's view): "So there are views like this."
Shana: "Yeah, there are a lot."
Yūji: "I'd like to know more."
Shana: "...You still have a ways... to go."
Yūji: "I'll do my best."
Shana: "Okay." - Alastor: "I didn't have any objections to someone like that eventually appearing, but I didn't think it would happen so quickly, or for it to be a lowly youngster like him... oh, a slip of the tongue, ma'am."
Chigusa: "Oh I don't mind, it's the truth after all. A good girl like Shana-chan is truly wasted on my Yūji." - Alastor: "Shana, be sure to continue listening to what the lady says. Yūji Sakai, strive more. You must not bring shame upon your mother."
