Thousands of Paths I (千千の行路 I Chiji no Kōro I ) is the 45th chapter of the Shakugan no Shana manga series.
Tiriel began preparations to face the Flame Haze with the Nietono no Shana. Shana and Yūji discovered each other's feelings regarding incidents from the dodgeball game.
Summary[]
Sorath, Tiriel and Sydonay were at a cafe, with Sorath stuffing his face with sweets and other customers staring at them. Tiriel voiced her displeasure at the staring and Sydonay explained that though they couldn't help their physical appearances, their clothes were flashy. Tiriel summoned her leaves around Sydonay and told him to watch his tone, as he was under the protection of her Cradle Garden, an Unrestricted Spell which allowed their presence to be undetectable to the Flame Haze in the city. Sydonay assured her that he would guard them, as he felt a Flame Haze nearby, and appreciated Sorath's Olfactory Sense of Desire, which had led them to Misaki City, where the Nietono no Shana was. Tiriel told Sorath to wait a while before getting the sword, and he sulked but obeyed. The siblings began to kiss and the customers stared more.
Tiriel expanded her Cradle Garden leaves to create a Fūzetsu-like dome around the cafe, freezing all the humans inside. Tiriel talked about her liking of the word "Orgel", which she called the little box she held, and found it amusing that they had come to the country of origin of that corrupted loanword, Japan. She drew a ribbon-like Unrestricted Spell Insignia from her lips. She explained that she was preparing to enclose the Flame Haze inside Cradle Garden so that they couldn't escape, and then kill them. Tiriel inserted the insignia into a man in the cafe, who appeared to immediately turn into a Torch. Sydonay guessed correctly that Orgel was a Treasure Tool that would work with the spell Tiriel had just used to enclose the Flame Haze. Tiriel permitted Sorath to devour everyone in the cafe except for the man with the spell insignia inside him.
Shana and Yūji walked home together silently, somehow both irritable. Shana broke the silence and they argued about not being angry. Shana got mad but Yūji pointed out that she had been angry first, having suddenly kicked him after the Phys Ed. class. Shana made an excuse, saying she had done so because he had been hit in the dodgeball match. Shana revealed that she had seen Yūji holding hands with Kazumi Yoshida and smiling. Yūji tried to explain and said that he hadn't been smiling, but Shana teased him. He mentioned seeing Shana together with a boy in the same Phys Ed. class. Shana realized that Yūji had felt the same way as her when she had seen him with Yoshida. They both became embarrassed. Suddenly, Alastor spoke, startling Shana. He told her to go back into the city, as he wanted something. Yūji tried to leave, but Alastor said he had something for him to do that night. Shana and Yūji looked at each other, confused.

Margery drunk.
In Satō's bar, Margery was hungover. She told Marchosias she had nothing to do except drink and threatened to throw up on him. Tanaka and Satō noisily entered the bar, and Margery yelled at them to quiet down. Margery had been making original alcohols, but Satō's old housekeeper hadn't wanted to join her. Marchosias asked the boys what they had studied today, leading Satō to bring out a book about business relationships, and Tanaka, an atlas. Marchosias took it as a sign of the boys' seriousness about staying together with Margery when she eventually leaves the city. After Marchosias noticed the bandage on Tanaka's chin, Tanaka mentioned the ball game. Margery suddenly asked whether he had won or lost the game. Tanaka said that he had lost and dismissed Satō's attempted excuse that he had been cheated. Margery said that they'd go shopping tomorrow, before falling asleep.
