A Battle for Today II (今日という日は戦い II Kyō to iu Hi wa Tatakai II) is the 34th chapter of the Shakugan no Shana manga series.
Lamies paid a brief visit to Shana and Yūji. Both Margery and Yūji figured out the truth behind Lamies' evasiveness.
Summary[]
Lamies bidding Yūji and Shana farewell and disappearing.
As Shana and Yūji were putting their shoes on in the school locker area, Yūji sensed that Lamies was close. They would reach him before Margery, for he was on the school roof. They raced to the roof and Shana kicked the door down to find Lamies standing there, surrounded by birds. Lamies said he was glad that the two had made up and greeted Shana, who allowed him to call her by that name. Alastor thanked him for helping with Yūji's problems yesterday. Lamies had come to see the results of his meddling, and to check up on Yoshida, which one of his birds had done for him. He said that she was a good girl and that Yūji shouldn't make her cry. Shana didn't know what they were talking about, as Alastor hadn't told her about Yūji going with Yoshida yesterday. Lamies had seen what he wanted to see and planned to leave, assuring Yūji that he had escaped from Margery before and wouldn't die until he fulfilled his goal. Shana said that they would focus on defeating Margery. Lamies bid them farewell, saying they would meet again at the Crossroads of Destiny, and faded away as his birds flew off.

From the Crystal Altar, Satō and Tanaka saw Lamies at Misaki Municipal High School. Margery thought it was a waste of time going and readied another detection spell. Tanaka pointed out that the Flame Haze that Margery had defeated yesterday had been with Lamies, but Margery chose to ignore her, saying she would defeat her again if she tried anything. After Margery activated the detection spell again, Satō noticed that Lamies had moved but the Flame Haze remained at the school. He noticed something else, confirmed with Margery that the Crystal Altar displayed Torches, and told her that he saw many birds leaving the school. Margery laughed and asked where the birds were going.

Still on the roof, Shana sensed Margery activating the detection spell again. Alastor commented on Lamies' speed, as he was now on the other side of the urban area of the city. Shana thought that with his speed, Lamies would tire Margery out. Alastor wanted to wait until Margery began using spells excessively or tired before attacking. Yūji thought that something was strange, and Shana turned to him expectingly. Yūji noted that today, he felt Lamies' presence on the roof from the first floor, whereas yesterday he didn't sense Lamies until he was right in front of him. Yūji went on to say that Lamies knew Shana had lost the fight yesterday, so he could predict Margery would search for him today, but nonetheless his presence was larger today, which was strange. He also thought that if Lamies could erase his presence, there was no need to lead Margery on a chase. Seeing as they had sensed Lamies on the other side of the city, Yūji thought this was a decoy, as if Lamies could move that fast, he could just outrun Margery. Yūji believed Lamies wasn't actually moving his body. Alastor found this more plausible than Lamies being fast. Yūji didn't think Margery would go to Lamies' new presence, as she had experience chasing him, and found it funny that she had only activated two detection spells, so he believed something had changed Margery's situation.
Yūji believed that the Lamies he had met yesterday was the real one due to his suppressed presence. He wondered where Lamies was, and remembered him looking up at the stained glass in the art exhibit. Yūji told Shana that they should rush to the station. He asked Alastor about Lamies' fighting abilities, and Alastor responded that he had none. Yūji started running but Shana didn't follow. An embarrassed Shana told Yūji to grab on to her so she could get them there quicker by jumping, as they might not make it running at Yūji's speed. Yūji became embarrassed as well and hugged her from behind, but Shana told him to grab her harder. When he was grabbing hard enough, Shana used her Flame Haze powers and jumped into the sky.
