Flame Haze IV (フレイムヘイズ IV Fureimuheizu IV ) is the nineteenth chapter of the Shakugan no Shana manga series.
Shana's Vessel could contain the Manifestation of Alastor, who destroyed Friagne. Afterwards, Yūji was on the verge of extinguishing.
Summary[]
Shana fell into the Mana River. After a delay and no explosion, Friagne looked down at the river. A Fūzetsu then covered the entire city, making it appear as if the sky was burning. Friagne and Yūji watched as a gigantic Alastor Manifested from out of the river and towered over the Yoda Department Store.
Alastor told Friagne that he had brought about his own end by playing with his Treasure Tools. Had they known about the effect of Trigger Happy, there wouldn't have been a need for Shana to dodge it. Alastor explained to Friagne how he could still Manifest after awakening; Shana's original future was to be a famous and influential person, be it an artist, politician, warrior, criminal, or the mother of one. Her Vessel was big enough to house the Crimson Lord Alastor, for she was the "Great One" (偉大なる者 ).
Alastor told Friagne to accept his flames of retribution, and with a breath, incinerated the top of the department store. Yūji watched as Friagne inaudibly called out to someone before being incinerated, and thought he saw a white bird. As he was sent flying off the building, Yūji saw a ring and reached for it.
Yūji woke up on the floor. He could feel the ring Treasure Tool in his hand and figured out that it had saved him. However, he knew his time was almost up as he was becoming transparent. Shana was sitting next to him and held his hand, and Yūji thought that she was beautiful. Yūji asked if he could be fixed, but Alastor, through the Cocytus, confirmed that he would disappear soon. Yūji reflected that it didn't matter when he disappeared and what mattered was what he should do before he did disappear. Shana thanked him for smiling at her during the final moments, when she was shot by Trigger Happy. Yūji asked her to keep using the name "Shana", and she smiled at him. He thanked her as he disappeared, and because he was smiling, he didn't think his death was too bad.
Yūji still possessed the capability of thought. He heard various things and opened his eyes to Shana's laughter. Even Alastor was chuckling. Yūji looked at his hand, which was no longer transparent. The two revealed that they had purposely waited before arriving to fight Friagne so that the end of the fight would be at a certain time, and were laughing because the time had matched perfectly. They explained to Yūji the power of the Treasure Tool inside him, the Reiji Maigo, which allowed the Torch that housed it to replenish the Power of Existence it had used up that day at midnight. Shana said to Yūji that he still had a future, calling him by his name for the first time. She and Alastor went on to say that with the Reiji Maigo, Denizens would be able to rampage without worrying about Power of Existence, and so they couldn't let it be taken, with Alastor also calling Shana by that name for the first time. Yūji had no problem with the two continuing to watch over him. Shana reached out to Yūji, but noticed that she wasn't wearing anything but her cloak, her uniform disintegrated by Alastor's Manifestation. She hit Yūji for looking at her.

- Alastor: ""Hunter" Friagne, the foolish Lord who brought about his own end by playing with his Treasure Tools... That Treasure Tool... to think its purpose was to wake me and destroy my contractor's vessel... I don't know whether to laugh now at having feared and dodged it..."
- Alastor: "This child's original future was to be an artist who carves her name into posterity, or a politician who moves her people, or a warrior known for her courage on battlefields, or a criminal famed for her evil... or perhaps their mother... This child, this child is the "Great One" who will spread her vessel, capable of containing the "Lord-worthy existence" of me, the "Flame of Heaven", through time and space."
- Yūji: "When I would disappear didn't really matter. It was about... what I should do now. No matter what I am or what would happen to me, I'd just do it. That was all that mattered..."
- Yūji (thinking): "Ah... I can't see Shana's face anymore... This is death... huh? But I'm... smiling. If I can die like this... it wouldn't be... too bad..."
- Shana: "Got a problem with that?"
Yūji: "No."
Shana: "Good."
