Flame Haze II (フレイムヘイズ II Fureimuheizu II ) is the seventeenth chapter of the Shakugan no Shana manga series.
Shana and Friagne commenced their rematch. During the battle, Yūji figured out the secret of Dance Party and how it was linked to the City Devourer.
Summary[]
As he felt Shana approaching, Yūji smiled and urged her to fight with all her strength. Shana leapt up to the roof of the Yoda Department Store. Yūji warned her to not get hit by Friagne's gun, and Alastor guessed that it was a Flame Haze-killer Treasure Tool. Yūji was hit in the head by a mannequin Rinne but urged Shana to fight Friagne, making her happy. She felt Yūji's determination, resolve and kindness, which allowed her to not go to help him and instead fight Friagne.
Friagne shot at her but Shana dodged and headed towards him, slashing the mannequins in her way. When Friagne detonated them with Dance Party, Shana used the explosion to accelerate forwards. As Shana fought another mannequin Rinne, Friagne rung Dance Party again. Yūji felt the ringing and noticed that no Rinne had exploded, realizing that the tone of the ringing was different from the previous one. Yūji avoided an explosion and waited until he heard that ringing tone again. He felt that this tone of ringing only affected Torches somehow, and that it was quickening the pulsing of Torches in the city. He figured this would cause the fast pulsing of old Torches and the slow pulsing of new Torches to have the same timing.
Yūji recalled Alastor's recount of how the "Weaver of Coffins" had activated City Devourer, but instead of decomposing, the Torches would explode from Friagne's Dance Party. This time, 10% of the population wouldn't be needed because of the greater force of the explosion. Yūji realized that the Yoda Department Store was right next to the Mana River and thus in the center of Misaki City. He had figured out all of the intricacies of Friagne's plan; Friagne had chosen the Yoda Department Store as the battlefield so that the ringing of Dance Party would flow throughout the city, he had told Yūji about Trigger Happy so that he would warn Shana about it and draw her focus away from Dance Party, and he was blowing up the mannequins as camouflage. He was pretending to fight, but was really readying City Devourer. Yūji tried to go and tell Shana about the plan, but a mannequin exploded in front of him and he blacked out.

Shana defeating a Rinne.
Marianne and Friagne watched Shana fighting the mannequin Rinne. Marianne thought that Shana was different from the other Flame Haze they had fought. For the others, Friagne had blocked their flame attacks with Azure and used that opening to shoot them with Trigger Happy. They couldn't create that opening against Shana because she couldn't use her flames properly, and on top of that, her strength with her sword was overwhelmingly strong. Shana defeated a Rinne, leaving three left.
