The Sunset III (夕日 III Yūhi III ) is the fifth chapter of the Shakugan no Shana manga series.
Marianne attacked Yūji and Shana while they were still at school.
Summary[]
Earlier, Kazumi Yoshida had watched Yūji approach Yukari and wondered when they had gotten so close. She watched the two go outside for lunch, and fearing the worst, she became depressed.

Shana getting ready for battle.
Back in class, Yoshida watched Yūji talking with Yukari. She became determined, and approached in order to talk to Yūji. Just as she was about to talk to him, a Fūzetsu was set around the school and she became frozen. Shana confirmed that the Denizens had come, to Yūji's disbelief. She got ready for battle, donning her cloak and flaming hair, and drawing her sword. Yūji was stunned by her beauty, but asked if the battle could be moved so that the others wouldn't get hurt. Shana stated that the Denizens had cast the Fūzetsu, so it was up to them. Yūji began to move students out of the classroom. He felt he had to as they wouldn't have gotten involved if he had gone home straight away.

Shana stabbing the doll.
After carrying one girl away, Yūji returned to the classroom to find a playing card floating outside the window. The card multiplied immensely and crashed through the window at him. Shana blocked the cards from reaching Yūji with her cloak and had stabbed Marianne, the doll from yesterday, who had been controlling the cards. Marianne caused an explosion which wrecked the classroom. She was now ripped up but was still stuck on the tip Shana's sword. Marianne created an electric field around Shana, which formed into a large number of identical dolls. They concentrated their mass into one massive doll taller than the classroom.
Yūji noticed Yoshida along with many other students frozen in the corner of the classroom, severely injured. He went to Yoshida, thinking that he had been too naive about what the battle would be like. With the gigantic doll grabbing Shana's sword and immobilizing her, a smaller one rushed at Yūji, but Shana calmly jumped up and flung the gigantic doll down on top of the smaller one. Yūji protected Yoshida from the impact of the fall. Shana asked the defeated Marianne who her master was, but she refused to say. Shana thought of the master as an idiot for wasting his minions, but the master appeared out the window, saying he was making a reconnaissance to determine her strength. Yūji got a bad feeling looking at the man in the white tuxedo, realizing that he was a Crimson Denizen.
