Mysterious Upper Class Date (謎のセレブデート Nazo no Serebu Dēto ) is the fourth track and second audio drama of the Shakugan no Shana II Splendide Shana Vol. I album. It is set sometime after Second episode 07.
Satō happened upon a lost Konoe and vowed to get her home, with Ogata and Tanaka watching them closely.
Summary[]
On a non-school day, Satō was aimlessly walking around Misaki City, as Margery had gone out and Tanaka was out with Ogata. He spotted Konoe and approached her, but she didn't recognize him. Konoe had been out for a walk but had gotten lost chasing a bird. She didn't quite comprehend the situation she was in, and though Satō offered to guide her, she couldn't tell him anything helpful like her address or phone number. Though Satō was briefly irritated, Konoe understood that he was being kind to her. Satō suggested asking Yūji where Konoe's house was, as they were close to Yūji's house.
Yūji hadn't been home and they had been told by his mother that he had gone shopping with Shana near the train station. Konoe was worried that she would never return home, but Satō vowed to get her there, reassuring her. They planned to go to the station shopping arcade to look for Yūji.
Ogata and Tanaka were watching Satō and Konoe walking together, with Ogata excited and Tanaka in disbelief. Though Tanaka didn't think Satō had moved on from Margery, Ogata pointed out that the two were both rich and could have gotten close. Ogata believed Satō and Konoe were a couple and wanted to follow them, which Tanaka relented to.
Satō was making small talk with Konoe, who had told him that she doesn't watch television at home. He had run out of things to say; he didn't want an awkward silence but had no idea what topics Konoe would be interested in. Satō asked Konoe what her hobbies were and she replied that her hobby was looking at birds. Satō wondered how he could keep the conversation going until they arrived at the station.
Still watching the two, Tanaka guessed that Satō had asked Konoe about her hobbies and would be struggling to talk to her, but Ogata was convinced that the two were dating. Yoshida came up to them and Ogata quickly dragged her behind cover. Ogata told Yoshida her delusions about Satō and Konoe's relationship and how they were discussing their wedding ceremony, though the two were clearly not talking. Ogata forced Yoshida to join them in watching Satō and Konoe. Yoshida thought the two were going to the station and Tanaka commented that with their money, it wouldn't be strange if they were planning a trip. Ogata realized that the Satō and Konoe families were enemies and it was unacceptable that their heirs fall in love with each other. As their families had opposed their marriage, Satō and Konoe were eloping, and the proof of that was that they were going to the station. Ogata wanted to stop them, and though Tanaka didn't think they were leaving, Yoshida thought they should stop them just in case. Tanaka suggested wearing disguises, to not reveal that the group had been following the two, and persuading them not to elope, which Ogata thought was a great idea.
Satō and Konoe arrived at the station arcade, but it was crowded and they couldn't find Yūji. Satō was worried when he heard from Konoe that she only vaguely remembered what Yūji and Shana looked like. The two were then accosted by a suspicious foreign fortune teller and her bodyguard. The fortune teller offered to tell Satō and Konoe's fortunes for free, but Satō tried to leave with Konoe. In their attempt to clear Satō's suspicion that they were frauds, the fortune teller almost blurted out the bodyguard's real name. Since Konoe was not suspicious of them at all, Satō allowed the fortune teller to tell them their fortunes. The fortune teller stated that a calamity will be brought forth if Satō took Konoe to where they were headed, leading not to happiness but rather irreversible misfortune. Thinking he was being told not to look for Konoe's house, Satō stated that the fortune teller had no right to say that, that Konoe was his responsibility, and that he would take her no matter what. Satō left with Konoe and the fortune teller, Ogata, wondered what they should do now. Tanaka, who had been the bodyguard, could tell how serious Satō was and now believed Ogata's story about Satō's elopement. Thinking he had to stop Satō by force, Tanaka ran up to Satō and grabbed him. In their scuffle, though Satō still didn't recognize him, Tanaka tried to convince him to abandon his elopement. The two were suddenly kicked to the ground by Shana. They were then joined by Yūji, who was with Shana, and Ogata and Yoshida, who went to see if Tanaka was alright, with Ogata's arrival exposing the identities of the fortune teller and bodyguard to Satō. Satō and Konoe were very confused by the situation.
The group found out about Satō trying to take Konoe home and Satō found out about Ogata's stories, with Ogata trying to pin them on Yoshida. Yūji apologized to Satō for not being home, which may have led to these events. When Shana blamed him, he pointed out that Shana had been the one who wanted to go shopping, and she told him to shut up. Satō was offended by Ogata's delusions and stated that there was no way he would do such things, but Yoshida thought it looked a little bit like that when she had watched Satō and Konoe. Having had more time to think now, Ogata commented that the delusions couldn't have been true because Satō liked older women, and the murmurs of acceptance from the group irritated Satō. Konoe didn't remember what she had talked with Satō about, but said she had fun and wouldn't mind getting lost again, which caused Satō to get teased by Tanaka. Konoe spotted another bird and started chasing it, worrying the group.

Trivia[]
- Satō mentioned to Konoe how she had visited his house, in Second episode 06, and how they had gone to an amusement park with their friend group, in Second episode 07. Due to this, "Mysterious Upper Class Date" must take place after Second episode 07.
- Satō used the phrase "having gone too far to turn back" (乗りかかった船 ) to describe why he was helping Fumina. He also used the same phrase in the audio drama Lost, Lost Yūji to explain why the group was following Shana and Yūji Kasai. The two audio dramas were released within three weeks of each other.
Cultural References[]
- When Satō said it was out of "character" (柄 gara ) for him to be so kind, Konoe thought he was talking about chicken broth (鶏がら torigara ) for ramen because of the common sound gara.
- In his regret of asking Konoe about her hobbies, Satō attributed the question to one used in miai.
- In Ogata's imagination, Konoe wanted to have baumkuchen as gifts for her wedding guests, which is a popular custom in Japan.
