Hirai Residence Barricading Incident (平井家立て籠もり事件 Hirai-ke Tatekomori Jiken) is the second track and first audio drama of the Shakugan no Shana II Splendide Shana Vol. III album.
At the Hirai Residence, Margery, Wilhelmina, Shana and Yūji are held hostage by Waruzō Waruta, a failed bank robber.
Summary[]
At the Hirai Residence, Margery was helping Wilhelmina sort out documents from Outlaw and found a train timetable mixed up among eyewitness reports. Outlaws were still in a state of chaos, with Wilhelmina having recently been sent personal letters and a diary written by a female staff member detailing her affair with her superior. Marchosias was interested, but Wilhelmina had noted sections which needed to be improved and sent them back. Margery finished sorting the last of the documents and bragged, hitting Marchosias for saying her behavior reduces people's gratitude towards her.
Shana and Yūji returned after going shopping. They had gone quite far to find the tequila Margery wanted, while also buying mayonnaise which had been on sale for Wilhelmina, and leaving Alastor with Chigusa. Marchosias found it amusing that Alastor would go to the lengths of going inside a mobile phone to talk to Yūji's mother, and Yūji explained that they would regularly report on Shana and discuss things, believing Alastor was the one who insisted on it. Margery commented that Shana was at a difficult age, but Shana stated that age didn't matter for a Flame Haze. The two bickered and Shana wanted Margery to leave, but Wilhelmina insisted she stay as she had been a big help. Yūji poured Shana some juice and Wilhelmina opened a bottle of wine. Margery made everyone toast her for sorting out the documents. She was having fun drinking after working, hitting Marchosias for suggesting that it was a rare occasion, while Yūji poured more juice for Shana.
The group heard police sirens outside and Yūji mentioned having seen many patrol cars when he had been out shopping. Marchosias joked that a robber was on the run, after which someone began banging on the door. Yūji went to the door, where a man demanded that Yūji open it. Wilhelmina wasn't expecting visitors but Margery guessed that the man was delivering pizza. Yūji opened the door, after which the man held him at gunpoint.
Wilhelmina was impressed that Margery had ordered a pizza delivery, but Margery hadn't ordered any and had simply wanted one to come. The man and Yūji entered, with the man putting a pistol to Yūji's back. The man, Waruzō Waruta, was being chased by the police and wanted to take them all hostage. Yūji surprised Waruta by figuring out that he had failed to break through the police encirclement and had to resort to barricading himself to change the situation. Waruta had messed up trying to rob a bank, but would use the ransom he would receive to flee the country. Margery remarked that robbing banks was retro and Wilhelmina noted that it was common knowledge that bank robbing was damaging for victims but had a low success rate because of modern countermeasures. Waruta complained about the bank's alarm and shutters and being struck by fluorescent pink color balls. Wilhelmina and Tiamat noted Waruta's foolishness for trying to rob a bank with only a pistol. Waruta was annoyed that the group seemed calm despite being hostages and wanted them to show more fear. Yūji assured Waruta that he was somewhat tense, and Waruta appreciated his words. Marchosias remarked that Yūji could easily crush Waruta, but Yūji was against violence, especially to a human. Waruta noticed Marchosias' voice from Grimoire and Yūji tried to claim it was his imagination but Marchosias and Tiamat pointed out that Tiamat had been talking this whole time as well. Waruta convinced himself that they were toys and was irritated when Yūji went to pour Shana more juice, wanting everyone to act like proper hostages. Margery and Wilhelmina pointed out that they had never been hostages before so didn't know what to do. Marchosias and Wilhelmina warned that the barricading won't work if the police come and the group are not properly scared. Waruta enacted a hostage begging a criminal for their life and got the group to repeat after him, but there was no feeling in their speech and Shana hadn't participated, instead receiving more juice from Yūji. The group tried again but hadn't improved. Waruta was annoyed by the group's lack of fear, as they needed to be pale, have their hands flapping about, and be trembling with fear from being cornered. Margery complained that he was asking too much of their acting skills. Waruta sadly threatened to find more suitable hostages, to which Yūji secretly thought it best to stop him from harming others outside.
Drunk from the wine, Wilhelmina called Waruta an illogical coward and likened him losing his nerve in this barricading to a boy being unable to pick the girl he likes, to which Yūji felt a tingle. She didn't listen to Waruta's excuses and made him sit down, lecturing that men should go through with what they had decided to do regardless of adversity, instead of blaming others and giving up, and Waruta would need to do this to become an all-time great criminal. Waruta did not have such grand ambitions, but Wilhelmina cautioned that he would instead be remembered as an indecisive fool. First, Waruta himself would need to become a criminal to be feared, after which the group and society would naturally fear him. Then, the world would pay attention to him as he gets rid of any special forces who confront him, obtains the ransom, flees, shakes off pursuers, and disappears. Accomplishing all of this and becoming synonymous with the word criminal was what it means to be a man. Waruta was fired up and eager to learn. Margery thought Waruta was too timid and she and Marchosias got him to enact verbally confronting the police surrounding his barricade, but his performance was unsatisfactory for Margery, Marchosias, Wilhelmina and Tiamat. Furious, Waruta threatened them with his gun, to no effect. Marchosias threatened Waruta back with intensity, bringing forth flames and telling him how to really get his words across.
A reporter on air and several police cars were outside the Hirai Residence when Waruta ran out, collapsed in front of a policeman, and begged for help. He began wailing uncontrollably about a blue flame even though his wounds were slight.
The group watched Waruta's arrest on television, where he could be seen demonstrating his own perfect hostage behavior. Marchosias and Margery were unimpressed and Wilhelmina likened his halfheartedness to a certain Mystes. Waruta could be heard begging for his life using the exact phrase the group enacted earlier, but performed perfectly.

- Anti-crime color balls are paint balls kept in places like banks, convenience stores and police stations. They are used to mark criminals or getaway vehicles to aid arrests.
- As Waruta tried to convince Shana to participate in the hostage enactment, he used the phrase One for all, all for one, before commenting that he was "becoming Shinji Yamashita". This is a reference to the 1984 Japanese TV Drama School Wars, in which Yamashita played Kenji Takizawa, a passionate teacher and school rugby union coach who used this phrase. When Yūji promised that the group would improve their hostage enactment, Waruta believed him and called him "Aesop", which was the nickname of Hiroshi Okudera, one of the students in the rugby team. A remake movie of School Wars, School Wars: Hero, was produced in 2004. School Wars was also later referenced in the eighth episode of Shakugan no Shana-tan.
