Shakugan Shōjo Shana-chan (灼眼少女シャナちゃん?, Burning-Eyed Girl Shana-chan) is a short story written by Masaki Okayu, illustrated by Torishimo, and printed in the Shakugan no Shana tribute booklet GRIMOIRE. The pair of Okayu and Torishimo are best known for their light novel series Bludgeoning Angel Dokuro-Chan.

The story serves as a prologue and digest of the first volume of a hypothetical series of the same name, and shares many similarities with Bludgeoning Angel Dokuro-Chan.

GRIMOIRE 051

Yūji Sakai was a high school first year student who had become a Torch. He had been worried about his rare Treasure Tool, Reiji Maigo, and being a Mystes, but no longer cared because of a strange guest that had settled into his house.

Yūji walked into his room without knocking to find a small, cute girl changing her clothes. They both screamed, with Yūji lamenting the girl Shana-chan's flat chest before being struck in the temple with the back of the Nietono no Shana. Yūji's brains, eyeballs and hair were pasted onto the window. Shana-chan was remorseful and cast an Unrestricted Spell with her sword by chanting "Pipiru-piru-piru-pipiru-pi" in her cute Kugimiya voice, with the spell reversing the damage to Yūji. Yūji complained about Shana-chan having just promised to stop killing him with her sword that morning, but quickly left his room.

Shana-chan had suddenly appeared from the Crimson Realm one day and was a Flame Haze who had been raised on Tendōkyū. The proof of that was her Divine Vessel Cocytus. Her sword, Nietono no Shana, mysteriously never killed anyone it was used on. When he had peaked at her showering, Yūji had discovered that Shana-chan had a tattoo of a rising dragon and the words "A Tool of Destruction until I burn out" on her chest. Yūji's life had been wrecked thanks to her.

This was a story of love, tears, and blood depicting the daily life of Yūji and Shana-chan.

The story started in Yūji's house in the twilight, as Chigusa was making curry. Yūji was doing his homework in the TV room when Shana-chan hugged him from behind. Yūji was again upset by Shana-chan's flatness. Shana-chan, being the affectionate girl that she was, started strangling him, in tears as she asked why Yūji was always doing his homework when he had her. She began saying she had studied many things at Tendōkyū but drew her sword when Yūji suggested she do his homework for him. Yūji dodged and escaped with only a cut to his cheek. Shana-chan claimed that according to the "data" Yūji always forgot his homework and got zeroes at school, and she used her sword and Power of Existence to bring out Dengeki Bunko volumes. A lot of stories featuring girls from different worlds had uninteresting boy protagonists, and this was Shana-chan's argument for getting Yūji to play with her. She tried to start a Shiritori game with the word Ukobach but Yūji stressed that this was the real world.

GRIMOIRE 056

Shana-chan lifting her dress.

Shana-chan started throwing a tantrum on the floor and Yūji commented that he couldn't study anyway because he could see her panties, which made Shana-chan curious. Yūji was in the middle of puberty, with naked girls in his head all day and a lewd thought every 3 seconds. Incidents like seeing Shana-chan's panties were a common occurrence and he couldn't tell her about his mind full of libido due to his pure heart. Shana-chan teased Yūji by lifting her dress, revealing her panties, which had a small print of Vairocana-Buddha on them, and her figure up to her ribs. Shana-chan's expression changed from a teasing one to a naive one. Two small chibi Flame Haze appeared and began circling Yūji's head, the "Shoulderer of Reason", who told him not to look at Shana-chan, and the "Entangler of Temptation", who took the form of Shana-chan and told him to look closely. Just as the "Entangler of Temptation" was going to kill the "Shoulderer of Reason" with the Nietono no Shana, Yūji's father Kantarō returned home, even though he had been working away from home. Yūji believed his father would come straight to the TV room and told Shana-chan to stop, saying he would stop doing homework. Shana-chan's dress fell at the same moment as Kantarō opening the door. He praised Yūji for doing his homework and asked Shana-chan to watch over Yūji's work. Yūji's parents had accepted Shana-chan into the family after she had used an Unrestricted Spell to create a wad of banknotes. It was established that they were looking after Yūji's classmate, whose Torch Shana-chan had forced herself into. Before she had used the daughter of a woman who had just remarried, but this disrupted the world's balance too much. Shana-chan kicked Yūji's books away and sat next to him and offered him melonpan. Yūji feared that Shana-chan would cause him to become a useless member of society.

Digests[]

The rest of the story is featured in the first volume of Shakugan Shōjo Shana-chan, but some digests of the volume are presented for everyone reading this excerpt!

Digest 1[]

Yūji and Shana-chan went to school together. Yūji managed to escape Shana-chan, who was ruling the classroom as a transfer student, and succeeded in becoming alone with Yoshida, who he had an unrequited love for, in the library preparation room!

GRIMOIRE 059

Mud and smoke coming out of Yūji's ears.

Yūji explained to Yoshida that Shana-chan had come out of his drawer one day. Yoshida thought about Shana-chan's reign in the classroom and being a Flame Haze, and thought that she "couldn't win against her". Yūji didn't want to deal with Shana-chan and thought she would be alright by herself. Yūji was trying to confess his feelings to Yoshida when Shana-chan called out to him through the school speaker. She threatened him to go to her or else she would tell the whole student body that he was a Mystes, thereby already succeeded in doing so. In Yūji's anger, muddy violet Power of Existence poured out of his ears. Yūji told Yoshida to wait there as black smoke also started coming out.

Digest 2[]

"Manipulator of Objects" Wilhelmina-chan suddenly appeared in front of Shana-chan and Yūji. She displayed a certain video on the school corridor wall!

As the video played, Shana-chan covered her eyes. The video regularly featured cute girls who were about upper-primary school age. Wilhelmina-chan explained that the video depicted the future, where an Unrestricted Spell for immortality had been completed, with Yūji having discovered it by chance. Shana-chan held Yūji's hand and said that Flame Haze don't forgive people who disrupt the balance of the world. Immortality was simply a byproduct, and he had brought forth the Distortions in the future by turning all women into special Mystes with fixed ages of 12. Yūji's classmates confirmed their suspicions that he was a lolicon. As Yūji tried to defend himself saying he wouldn't be able to use that Unrestricted Spell, Yoshida asked him what Treasure Tool was inside him. His classmates were in an uproar at the name Reiji Maigo and Yūji said it wasn't a Treasure Tool that allowed him to have his way with 12-year-old girls who were lost at midnight. He also bemoaned that if Yoshida knew he was a Mystes at this point in time, Khamsin would get less screen-time.

Digest 3[]

The last battle! At a rock mine Shana-chan and Yūji confront one of the 5 most powerful Lords of the modern era! His name is——

Faced with an unprecedentedly powerful enemy, what will become of Shana-chan and Yūji, as well as "Bright Pink Mane" Zansu!?
