The Reiji Maigo (零時迷子 , lit. "Midnight Lost Child") is the Treasure Tool stored inside Yūji Sakai's body. Every day at midnight it replenishes the keeper's Power of Existence up to its maximum but only so long as the bearer has not exhausted their Power of Existence. It also allows its wielder to move freely inside the Fūzetsu.
Appearance[]
The Reiji Maigo's appearance is of a sphere of Power of Existence surrounded by gears. It also has a Kaikin that is placed by the creator in order to protect the Reiji Maigo from Bal Masqué and possible enemies who want to get their hands on it.
Background[]
The Reiji Maigo is a perpetual engine which restores its host's Power of Existence every day at midnight. It is a masterpiece regarded as a "treasure among treasures" by beings involved with the Crimson Realm.[1]
The Reiji Maigo was created more than 300 years ago by Johann, who crafted the Treasure Tool with the help of the Crimson Lord Pheles to grant eternal life to himself in order to be with her. They used a clock tower as the materials to create the Reiji Maigo. Also, due to this Treasure Tool's ability, Pheles no longer needed to consume humans as she could tap into Johann's existence without either of them losing their existence.
Unfortunately, their encounter with Sabrac forced Pheles to seal her lover, who was then fatally wounded, into the Reiji Maigo and also placed a Kaikin that would attack anyone else who laid hands on it. She then let the Treasure Tool randomly transferred to other Torch. The Reiji Maigo then transferred into the body of Yūji Sakai right after he was made into a Torch by Friagne's faction.
Pheles was unaware though that Sabrac has also placed a Unrestricted Spell Insignia, the Psalm of the Grand Order, inside the Reiji Maigo as well per Bal Masqué's request. This spell unexpectedly corrupted the Kaikin's original function; it now attacks everyone who touches it and also breaks the body part of that Crimson Denizen that has invaded. Its Mystes can also absorbs that residual if they so desire.
Plot[]
Yūji Sakai became a Mystes right after the incident with the Engage Link. Because of the Reiji Maigo, he could move freely inside the Fūzetsu.
The Psalm of the Grand Order that was placed inside the Reiji Maigo gradually causing its transformation into Tyrant I, and its conversion of Virtual Aggregate Will was also in action; this resulted in Yūji encountering "a black version of himself" in his dream.
During the Pheles incident at the Seishū Festival, Hecate appeared and inscribed a seal on the Reiji Maigo that acted as a transmitter. Then, after Sabrac's attack on Misaki City, another piece of the Psalm of the Grand Order was placed by him into the Reiji Maigo, completing it transformation into Tyrant I. Yūji's determination to stop the endless battle between Flame Haze and Crimson Denizens caused him to join the Snake of the Festival's side. After learning of the Reiji Maigo's principle of operation from Dantalion, Bel-Peol planned to make use of the Treasure Tool's function in a more than usual scale.
It was later used to give power to the Snake of the Festival to finish the creation of Xanadu, creating a pathway to the Rift Between Both Worlds, where Xanadu will be placed.
After the Divine Summoning, Saiki Reisō, the Reiji Maigo started to display abnormalities due to excessive use; its gears now rattled and Kaikin barely functioned.[2] However, this did not affect Yūji as much, since he had become a firm existence through the Unrestricted Spell Insignia of Reincarnation. He continued to keep the Reiji Maigo within himself, but he actually did not have to rely on its ability anymore.
While Yūji was in Xanadu, the Reiji Maigo completely stopped functioning. He was sometimes known to other Crimson Denizens as the "Mystes of the broken Treasure Tool" (壊れ宝具の“ミステス” Koware Hougu no Misutesu )[3].
In the anime[]
In the anime, the Reiji Maigo differs in its function. It is capable of infinitely producing Power of Existence.[4]
At the present, it was targeted by the Crimson Denizen organization Bal Masqué, with aims to concentrate an immense amount of Power of Existence by synchronizing of Bal Masqué's leaders Hecate with the Reiji Maigo. Since Hecate is known by Bal Masqué to have an "almost infinite" amount of Power of Existence, the procedure forced the Reiji Maigo to "fill something which cannot be filled", and as a consequence, it gave its current bearer almost the same limit of Power of Existence, which later becomes of help to Yūji Sakai when Bal Masqué returns to use the Reiji Maigo to give life to the Statue of Pride.
