Quiddity (クイディティ Kuiditi ) is a short story published in Dengeki Bunko Magazine on April 10, 2020. Like Amphitheater, it is about Shana and Yūji Sakai in Xanadu.[1]
Background[]
Quiddity was first alluded to by Shakugan no Shana editor Kazuma Miki on Twitter on February 19 in response to a user who asked him about a potential "volume SIV" which would include Amphitheater, as it had only been published in Dengeki Bunko Magazine. Miki's response was that he couldn't immediately answer the request for volume SIV, but that something "equally joyful" would happen soon.[2] He announced the short story on Twitter on March 13 along with a rough illustration by Noizi Itō.[1] Quiddity was released on April 10 in the final volume of Dengeki Bunko Magazine.[3]
Chapters[]
- Chapter 1: At the Restaurant (食堂にて Shokudō ni te )
- Chapter 2: Sage's Task (賢者の課題 Kenja no Kadai )
- Chapter 3: Citizen of the Paradise (楽園の住人 Rakuen no Jūnin )
Summary[]
It begins with a Crimson Lord name Barometz with his followers named "Color Thieves" by the Flame Haze.
Barometz plants his spell in guise of plant seeds in various places which will grow into plants. These plants are indistinguishable from normal ones. When someone who possesses Aggregated Will came in contact with them, it would activate the spell which steal a portion of their prey's power/flame and sent it to Barometz himself; he can also share these power to buff his followers.
After a battle, Color Thieves is destroyed by Yūji Sakai (who can use Tyrant, Dragon Tail and Cannon Rinne) and Shana (Who can manifest Alastor in her body) and knocked Barometz with ease. Barometz wasn't killed and his followers were offered to surrender but no one did, making Barometz the only survivor.
After the event of last year, from the Brothers of the Maccabee's group comes the new group called the True Oracle, who now instead of a fallacious version of Shaher's Oracle, follows Alastor's words of punishing to those who still kill humans in Xanadu. This was a strange turn of event which baffles both Flame Hazes and Denizens alike. The True Oracle is now led by Yūji, but they are not as efficient as Bal Masqué and would need to be trained more.
It is described that Chorde, ring-shaped Treasure Tools that were separately kept by both Shana and Margery, were inscribed with multiple communication spells. They hope that someday they could contact each other; like how the ring Shana held previously had a reaction.
Prior to the fight, there was a meeting in Italy between Bel-Peol, Shana and Sentia, as representatives of Denizens from the Old World, Flame Hazes and the Orderists, respectively. Yūji was supposed to participate but he went to meet with Wilhelmina, who, since arrival at Xanadu, never let him near Tendōkyū and Justus. The meeting wasn't smooth but Wilhelmina, rewarding him for the work he has been doing to bridge between humans and denizens, let him see Justus for the first time which moved Yūji a lot; as Justus is the proof of how humans and denizens can coexist. Yūji is determined to continue his path, with Shana by his side.
