Mumyō Kyōshin (無明鏡振 , Avidyā Mirror Vibration) is a non-canon Treasure Tool which featured in A Certain Crimson Flame Haze, a collaboration story event with the game Toaru Majutsu no Index: Imaginary Fest.
Background[]
Mumyō Kyōshin had taken the form of a giant circular mirror, but had been shattered in a previous battle. The Crimson Denizens possessed 60% of its pieces, the Flame Haze possessed 20%, and the whereabouts of the remaining 20% were unknown.[1] Though there is usually nothing in the Rift between the Human World and the Crimson Realm, if a "third world" drew near for whatever reason, Mumyō Kyōshin is able to resonate strongly with it. It reflects that world within its mirror and allows people to cross over to it.[1] After being shattered, Mumyō Kyōshin's pieces could still be used for this purpose.
The shattered pieces of Mumyō Kyōshin resembled mirror-like gems.[2][3] It is likely that pieces of the mirror can resonate with each other, allowing the possessor of one piece to sense the location of other pieces.[4][3]
Plot[]
A Certain Crimson Flame Haze[]
Sydonay, Hecate and a large Bal Masqué force had used pieces of Mumyō Kyōshin to cross over into Academy City. Shana and Yūji followed Sydonay into the city.[5] Wilhelmina had crossed over to look for Shana,[6] and Margery went as well.
In Academy City, Index picked up a gem before she and Touma Kamijou were attacked by a Bal Masqué Crimson Denizen who was looking for it.[2] Later, the gem allowed Index to locate Hecate through resonating with the piece of Mumyō Kyōshin in Hecate's possession.[4] After Bal Masqué had retreated, Index's gem crumbled. The whereabouts of 20% of Mumyō Kyōshin's pieces were still unknown, and they could be drifting in the Rift Between Both Worlds or be in people's possession.[3]
Trivia[]
- "Kyōshin" (鏡振 ) is a homophone for the word "resonance" (共振 kyōshin ) and is formed by simply replacing its first kanji with the one for "mirror" (鏡 ).
