The Incident During the Cold War (冷戦下の事件 Reisen-ka no Jiken ) was an incident that occurred during the Cold War in the Arctic Ocean where the United States and Soviet's nuclear submarines carried out nuclear missile strikes against Crimson Denizens. However, those Denizens used Fūzetsu to neutralize the attacks and, to make things worse, hijacked those submarines.[1]
Background[]
These attacks were orchestrated by a faction composed of human members within the Outlaw leadership. These people aimed to take control of the organization's enormous power structure. They arrogantly believed that they could exterminate Crimson Denizens as many as they liked with the nuclear power humanity had created. Instead, the result was the opposite; Crimson Denizens managed to hijack those nuclear submarines, leading to a scenario that threatened the whole world.[1]
Ultimately, this human faction was eradicated, and the hijacked nuclear submarines were subdued by Flame Haze strike teams.[1] Despite their success, two of these submarines were lost.[2] Furthermore, a Crimson Denizen smuggling group Hyakki Yakō was involved in helping this operation, though this was kept as a confidential information among the strike teams.[1] The reason for them to assist Flame Haze being that they felt that it was a moment where their smuggling could change something.[3]
Aftermath[]
Using the incident, Dorel Kubelík completely purged Outlaw of traditional personnel changes through favoritism.[1] The outcome of the incident also concluded that nuclear weapons were meaningless against Crimson Denizens.[2]
Trivia[]
- The incident is a parallel to the Cold War's many conflicts or crises, such as the Cuban Missile Crisis.
