Part 7: "Destructive Blade" Sabrac (第7回『“壊刃”サブラク』 Dai 7-kai "Kaijin" Saburaku ) is the seventh episode of Friagne and Marianne no Naze Nani Shana! covering the second season of the anime series, and nineteenth overall. It was released on the seventh Shakugan no Shana Second DVD volume.
Summary[]
Friagne introduced "Destructive Blade" Sabrac as a Crimson Lord who didn't belong to any organization and worked as an assassin who accepted requests to kill targets. Marianne likened Sabrac to Friagne as he was also a collector, possessing a substantial number of swords. However, Friagne didn't approve of him collecting simple human-made swords as opposed to Treasure Tools and throwing them away after use without hesitation. Marianne started shrinking, thinking she had upset Friagne. Though he tried to say he wasn't upset, Marianne continued being sad, so he suggested they move to the next topic.
Marianne wanted to discuss Sabrac's fighting methods, where battles always began with his Surprise Attack. The Surprise Attack was his biggest advantage as an assassin as it covered a vast range and was impossible to sense coming. He conceals himself in advance, assesses the situation, and unleashes a powerful attack at the most effective moment. It was a trap that had never been detected by either Flame Haze or Denizen, and Marianne was amazed that "Flame-Haired Burning-Eyes" and "Chanter of Elegies" were incapacitated with one blow. Friagne noted that the two were well-known Hunters and had set up defenses in an instant to avoid fatal wounds, but that was where Sabrac's other ability, the Unrestricted Spell Stigma, came in. Stigma was a power like a deadly poison, obstructing the healing of inflicted wounds and making them spread over time. The inflicted wounds would keep spreading as long as you were within the area of effect of Sabrac's powers. Therefore, even if someone avoided instant death from the Surprise Attack, they will be disadvantaged more and more as time passed.
Friagne explained that on top of that, Sabrac himself fought by controlling a powerful and freely-transformable surging wave of flames and he also had elite swordsmanship for close combat. To Marianne's surprise, there was still more. Sabrac's most troublesome trait was that he had abnormal durability which led to him being unaffected by all attacks. Marianne was impressed that "Flame-Haired Burning-Eyes" and the others were able to win against him, as they had to keep fighting him while their wounds spread due to Stigma and he kept getting back up no matter how many times they attacked him. Friagne attributed the victory to the Mystes boy. The boy realized that Sabrac's true body was gigantic and permeated widely and deeply into the land around them, that the humanoid fighting in front of them was only a terminal carrying his will, that the true body would instantly compensate any damage the humanoid received, which made Sabrac appear invulnerable, and that Sabrac could be defeated if the terminal was attacked after being detached from the true body. Marianne bemoaned the boy's perceptiveness, which had also previously prevented their City Devourer. Friagne also thought the boy's clear-headed mind was detestable and frightening. He commented that if the boy exhibited this insight and decisiveness in matters of love, he would cause less trouble for "Flame-Haired Burning-Eyes" and Kazumi Yoshida. Marianne deeply sympathized with the two as a woman and was glad her partner was Friagne, which he was happy to hear.
Friagne noticed that their time was up. Next episode's topic was the mysterious existence created by Bal Masqué, the Statue of Pride, which Friagne thought would be interesting.
