Part 4: The Silver Edition (第4回「銀」編, Dai 4-kai 'Gin'-hen) is the fourth episode of Friagne and Marianne no Naze Nani Shana! covering the second season of the anime series, and sixteenth overall. It was released on the fourth Shakugan no Shana Second DVD volume.

Summary

Friagne started the program feeling dejected and revealed that he didn't know anything about the Silver, the Denizen who took the form of an ominous suit of Western armor. To be precise, he didn't know of any being who possessed silver flames. He reminded Marianne that when beings who had crossed over from the Crimson Realm produce Power of Existence in the form of flames, those flames are a color unique to them. Marianne came up with some examples; Friagne had pale white flames, Sorath and Tiriel had bright golden yellow flames, Sydonay had muddy purple flames, and Hecate had bright water-colored flames. Since Flame Haze have made contracts with Crimson Lords, their brethren, they also display unique flame colors when they use their powers, examples being crimson for "Flame-Haired Burning-Eyes" and ultramarine for "Chanter of Elegies". However, the flames the Mystes of the Reiji Maigo, Yūji Sakai brought forth were silver, something Friagne had never seen or heard of. Marianne was surprised that Friagne, who had been known as being among the top five most powerful Crimson Lords of the modern era and had traveled the world, didn't know of the silver flames. It wasn't just Friagne though as even "Flame of Heaven", the Demon God famed throughout the Crimson Realm, didn't know of them either. This made for an abnormal situation.

Marianne wondered what the Silver was. All that was known about it was that it was a monster who brought about the tragedy several centuries ago which motivated "Chanter of Elegies" to form a contract with "Claw and Fangs of Violation". It was her sworn enemy and she was still after it to this day, putting her pursuit of it above all else. As there was no information about it, it was a mysterious existence. Marianne wanted to make sure that the Western armor was related to the Crimson Realm. Friagne believed it was given that "Chanter of Elegies" saw it produce silver flames and brutally devour humans. However, it was unclear what the connection was between the Silver that she saw and the silver flames the Reiji Maigo's Mystes produced. Marianne quoted what "Spiral Organ" Lamies had said about the Silver; "It's useless to chase it. You'll chase but never catch it, search but never find it. It just appears." Friagne felt the quote only made the Silver more mysterious and wondered if what was happening now was what Lamies had been referring to. They would just have to wait for further developments regarding the mystery of the Reiji Maigo and the Silver. They couldn't say the two were completely unrelated, but Friagne thought they shouldn't carelessly try to connect them either and should instead focus on the facts that would be revealed in time.

The title of the next episode, including a typographical error for Pheles' true name.

Marianne and Friagne wanted to tackle the topic of the Silver again in the future. The topics of the next episode were "Colorful Wave" Pheles and Kaze no Tenrin.

Trivia

• Though Sydonay's flame color was stated to be muddy purple like in the novels, the anime footage used showed his flames being a greenish color.
• Hecate's flame color was stated to be "bright water-colored" (明るい水色) instead of the correct "overly bright water-colored" (明るすぎる水色).
• Marianne quoted what Lamies said to Margery about the Silver, in episode 08.
• Pheles' true name was misprinted as (彩瓢) instead of (彩飄). This is addressed two episodes later, in Friagne and Marianne no Naze Nani Shana! Episode 18.
