Part 2: Kaikin Edition (第2回「戒禁」編 Dai 2-kai 'Kaikin'-hen ) is the second episode of Friagne and Marianne no Naze Nani Shana! covering the second season of the anime series, and fourteenth overall. It was released on the second Shakugan no Shana Second DVD volume.
Summary[]
Marianne wanted to ask a question immediately, though Friagne felt it better to spend the precious time they had together more leisurely. Marianne sought to mix things up and progress at a brisk pace to keep the program interesting, which Friagne was then appreciative of.
Marianne asked Friagne to explain the Kaikin which activated when "Village of Jestful Slumber" Mare was reaching for the Reiji Maigo, in episode 02. Friagne was very familiar with Kaikin because he had been a Treasure Tool collector. He explained that Kaikin were Unrestricted Spells set within Mystes which acted like barriers or traps to protect their Treasure Tools. A Mystes housing a powerful or valuable Treasure Tool would be targeted by Denizens and Flame Haze, and a Kaikin's purpose was to obstruct them and protect the Mystes' existence. Kaikin were not unique to the Reiji Maigo's Mystes and were often cast on Mystes specialized for battle. Friagne brought up the example of Tenmoku Ikko, who had once fought "Flame-Haired Burning-Eyes", as an example of this. Marianne recalled that when "Flame-Haired Burning-Eyes" tried to decompose him, her hand thrust inside him had been caught in his Kaikin. She commented that the Reiji Maigo was equipped with a similar function, and Friagne went into deep thought about her statement but did not tell her his concerns.
Marianne asked who had set the Kaikin and Friagne stated that it was likely the Reiji Maigo's creators, "Colorful Wave" Pheles and "Eternal Lover" Johann, who were together referred to as the "Engage Link". Johann was a human who chose to be the Mystes of the Reiji Maigo so that he could always be with Pheles, the Crimson Lord he loved. Marianne thought it was romantic that Johann gave up being human for the one he loved. However, the honeymoon that was supposed to be eternal for the "Engage Link" must have ended, and that was why the Reiji Maigo was within a new Mystes, Yūji Sakai. Marianne asked whether eternal love was something impossible, but Friagne responded that Naze Nani Shana! was their eternal love. He wanted them to protect their bastion of love for the "Engage Link" as well.
Marianne wondered whether the Reiji Maigo was untouchable by anyone due to the Kaikin, but Friagne stated that in a normal case, the person who set it would be the sole person capable of disabling it. He went into deep thought again, concerned about the considerable strength the Reiji Maigo Kaikin showed in tearing off half of Mare by only slightly touching her. He didn't know anything specific but his eyes were telling him that there was something strange about it. The Reiji Maigo contained mysteries they still did not know, but they would be revealed in the main story.
It was time for the program to end, which Marianne was unhappy about. The next episode's topic was the support facilities for Flame Haze, Outlaws.
