"Bal Masqué Edition" (仮装舞踏会 (バル・マスケ) 編, Baru Masuke-hen) is the seventh episode of Friagne and Marianne no Naze Nani Shana!. It was released on the seventh Shakugan no Shana DVD volume.

Summary

The Trinity.

Marianne commented that the battle unfolding had become very complicated and Friagne admitted that even the contractor of the "Flame of Heaven" had no chance of winning against Bal Masqué. Marianne wanted Friagne to tell her about Bal Masqué. Generally, Crimson Denizens do not form groups because, like Friagne had previously stated, they all have different values and desires. It was normally unthinkable to make your own desire the same as that of a stranger, much less cooperate to achieve someone else's desire. Marianne couldn't imagine Friagne joining forces with the Aizen Siblings. However, this doesn't mean that Denizens never form groups. If there are many different desires, among them would be grand ones which can only be achieved by a group, or even the desire to be among a group. Denizens form organizations in order to fulfill desires. A Denizen organization is formed when others gather around shrewd people of great generosity, who can regulate the advantages and disadvantages of the countless desires of its members and give them a great cause to strive for and a place to belong. Marianne asked whether, for Bal Masqué, this referred to the Trinity; "Thousand Changes" Sydonay, "Master Throne" Hecate, and "Arbiter of Reverse Reasoning" Bel-Peol. Friagne answered that it was a little different to be precise, but left it at that for now.

"Seeking Researcher".

In particular, Bel-Peol had been important in consolidating the organization. She had even recruited the "Professor", "Seeking Researcher" Dantalion, for the current battle. Everyone came to call Dantalion the "Professor" due to his obsession with experiments and research. Friagne described him as an eccentric Crimson Lord who was supporting the Denizen side on this occasion but has helped the Flame Haze in the past. Dantalion's sole desire is to conduct experiments based on his own unique self-constructed logical system and research the truths of this world. Therefore, he will help anyone who will be cooperative with his experiments. Dantalion's inventions are also strange, being mostly short-lived items only he can use. However, very rarely, valuable Treasure Tools or the bases of Unrestricted Spells are among them, so they can't all be disregarded. Marianne wondered why a troublesome person like the "Professor" was cooperating with Bal Masqué, and Friagne guessed that he would be able to conduct experiments meaningful to him.

The episode was near its end and Friagne joked that the episodes went by quickly like the speed in which "Seeking Researcher" runs away.
