"Love and Objective Edition" (愛と目的編, Ai to Mokuteki-hen) is the fifth episode of Friagne and Marianne no Naze Nani Shana!. It was released on the fifth Shakugan no Shana DVD volume.

Summary

Marianne wanted to ask Friagne further questions and he encouraged her to ask anything. Marianne mentioned the Crimson Denizens that had appeared recently, "He-Who-Loves-Himself" Sorath and "One-Indulged-in-Love-of-Others" Tiriel, but Friagne interrupted her. He was concerned that Marianne was envious of the siblings' relationship. Marianne stated that Friagne's love for her was fulfilling, but was again interrupted by him as he voiced his happiness at her statement. Friagne talked about the siblings' behavior as being an expression of love, as he would also sacrifice himself to save Marianne from harm, and thus the conclusion of the siblings' love was beautiful. Friagne thought the siblings' love was gaudy. Love is a burning passion that wells up from within a person's heart, but it was tasteless to show it off in public indecently. However, on the other hand was the relationship between "Flame-Haired Burning-Eyes" and the Mystes boy, which was like kids playing house. For Friagne, the relationship between himself and Marianne was the highest, most elegant, and most beautiful form of love. Marianne agreed with him, and therefore Friagne believed he had answered her question. He was shocked when she said he hadn't, thinking that maybe you shouldn't seek an answer from love.

Marianne had actually wanted to ask about Sydonay, the Crimson Lord who had been guarding Sorath and Tiriel. She found that taking requests and finding joy in carrying them out was unusual for a Lord. Friagne agreed that Sydonay was unusual and thought it absurd to help others in their desires instead of trying to fulfill your own wishes, like Friagne himself had done. However, Crimson Denizens all have different values and desires, and their existences are embodiments of those things. Therefore, it is difficult for even Lords to understand each other's motives. A prime example of this are the Crimson Lords who have decided to destroy their brethren Denizens and formed contracts with Flame Haze. Marianne understood that there were many different types of people among Crimson Lords.

Marianne informed Friagne that there was not much time left. Friagne lamented jumping to conclusions and wasting time, but had fun. He wanted to talk about love next time as well.
