The first episode of Friagne and Marianne no Naze Nani Shana!. Though it has no title, the topics of the episode are the Flame Haze (フレイムヘイズ ) and Crimson Denizens (紅世の徒 ). It was released on the first Shakugan no Shana DVD volume.
Summary[]
Friagne and Marianne introduce the audience to the program, which seeks to explain difficult terminology of the Shakugan no Shana series. Marianne commented that she had a feeling of déjà vu despite this being the first episode, having experienced something similar in the back of some published novels, but Friagne advised her not to worry, as it is natural for wonderful things to be appreciated, loved, and spread worldwide.
Marianne asked Friagne the inaugural question of the series: What exactly are the Flame Haze who hunt them? Friagne was pleased that Marianne wanted to learn about the enemy before battling them. He explained that "Flame Haze" was a term for a human who has entered into a contract with a Crimson Lord, who has decided to battle their brethren Crimson Denizens. The Flame Haze try to destroy Denizens using the power granted to them by the Lord within their bodies, though there was no way Friagne would lose to them.
Marianne sought clarity on the Crimson Lords who had entered into contracts with Flame Haze being Friagne's brethren. This was unfortunately true. They were all Crimson Denizens, inhabitants of another world adjacent to this one which can't be reached, the Crimson Realm. The exceptionally powerful Denizens were known as Crimson Lords.
Marianne asked why brethren Denizens would fight each other. Friagne explained that they all came to this world to fulfill their own desires, and to realize those desires, they need to obtain the Power of Existence of humans. The Lords contracted to Flame Haze won't allow this because they say it will expand the Distortion of the world.
Marianne then asked what would happen if Distortions were neglected. Friagne explained that according to those Lords, a Great Calamity would occur to both this world and the Crimson Realm, though this was just conjecture. For Friagne, it was more important to gather the Power of Existence necessary for Marianne and himself to be together forever as quickly as possible before the "Flame of Heaven"'s contractor interferes, and to obtain the Treasure Tool within the boy.
Marianne informed Friagne that the program was nearly over and they bid the audience farewell. Friagne stated that they would meet again when he and Marianne's eternity had been realized.
