The Divine Gate (神門 Shinmon) is a gateway created by the Snake of the Festival that creates in order to retrieve his true body which has been banished by the ancient Flame Haze's Eternal Pitfall.
The Divine Gate connects to the Rift Between Both Worlds, specifically the Path of Pilgrimage (詣道 Keidō), which in turn is a pathway created to lead his substitute body and kindreds to the Sanctuary (祭殿 Saiden) where his true body rests.
Appearance[]
At first when it was activated, the Divine Gate was a pitch-black sphere, but silver flames burst forth from its edges, transforming into an elegant, magnificent silver filigree. Eventually, the sphere flattened, taking the shape of a massive black mirror.[1]
In the anime, the Divine Gate is a horizontal circle, with its circumference surrounded by spires of a blue-purple color. The circle itself is a black hole with purple tinges.
Background[]
The second phase of the Grand Order involves Bal Masqué preparing to awaken the Crimson God of Creation's true body and bring it back from the Rift Between Both Worlds back to this world.
In order to achieve that, Hecate guides the Seireiden to the coordinate where a certain invisible, faint distortion is; this distortion was the aftermath caused by the Eternal Pitfall during the battle that originally banished the Snake of the Festival. Over time, this distortion drifts and settles in south-central China.[2] Just before midnight[3], Yūji Sakai, as the God of Creation's substitute body, uses nearly all of his Power of Existence to create the Divine Gate.[4] Then, the Reiji Maigo replenishes the power he exhausted. The God of Creation applauds the Treasure Tool's magnificent ability.[5] The creation of the Divine Gate seemingly involves a large-scale distortion, which was detected by the Flame Haze Army.
Since the Divine Gate is fixed in space, it also obstructs the movement of the Seireiden. This later becomes the cause that leads to its Crypta's destruction after Wilhelmina Carmel, via the Gehinnom, orders Seireiden's abrupt descent.
Yūji, Alastor, the Trinity, Dantalion, Domino, Sabrac and Rofocale enters the Divine Gate which leads them to the Path of Pilgrimage. Soon, they are followed by Shana, Wilhelmina Carmel, Khamsin and Rebecca Reed. The Flame Haze are obstructed by Sabrac and failed to prevent the awakening of the Snake of the Festival's true body. The destruction of the Shrine and Path of Pilgrimage following his awakening causes the occurrence of Faint Heaven Quake which signals the imminent return to the world. Sophie Sawallisch attempts to destroy the Divine Gate, even at the cost of preventing Shana and her allies from returning. However, her attack is thwarted by Fecor’s Unrestricted Spell Magnesia. Then, Shana's group return to this world, followed by Yūji, the Snake of the Festival's true body and his group.
Having fulfilled its purpose, the Divine Gate shatters into fine fragments along with the black fissure that covers the sky.[6]
Two years after the creation of the new world, Xanadu, a Crimson Denizen organization called Rut, spearheaded by Cerebus, attempts to construct and activate a crude imitation of the Divine Gate in a small town of Tomozoe to bring back Dantalion from the Rift Between Both Worlds. However, it is promptly analyzed and dismantled by Yūji's Unrestricted Spell Grammatica.[7]
