Dance Party (ダンスパーティー Dansupātī) was a Treasure Tool in the form of a glass bell owned by Friagne. Whenever it was rung, it caused nearby Rinne to become so volatile they exploded, creating a diversionary attack which could be used to divert the attention of the enemy to the Rinne and launch an ambush.
Dance Party's original function as a Treasure Tool was to be used against enemies who utilized Rinne, but Friagne applied its function to match his objective.
Appearance[]
It was a Treasure Tool which took the shape of a clear glass bell decorated with etched details.
Background[]
Dance Party had the ability to implant pulsations (鼓動 Kodō) on Rinne or Torches. Though, the method to achieve that was not explained in the story.
When Dance Party was rung, it caused Rinne to resonate with the sound the bell produced; the flames within Rinne then accelerated their pulsations to a critical point where they condensed and exploded.
Friagne was also able to choose targets to detonate, as he was seen excluding Marianne and Torches from exploding during the fights.
Plot[]
Friagne used Dance Party to detonate Rinne under his command in close combat against Shana.
However, this way of use was merely a deception. In reality, Friagne intended to use this Treasure Tool to activate the secret method called City Devourer,[1] previously used by a Crimson Lord named Asiz.
His plan was to implant the pulsations of Dance Party into a massive number of Torches he had made in Misaki City and detonate them simultaneously. By doing that, it would rapidly distort the city by severing its numerous connections. This would convert the entire area into a massive Power of Existence of high purity. He would use it to launch the Unrestricted Spell Insignia of Reincarnation that would reconstruct his beloved Marianne into a solid being; an existence that would not have to rely on his Power of Existence to survive anymore.
However, Yūji Sakai, with his keen perceptive abilities, managed to detect the pulsations that were also implanted on himself and other Torches. He successfully warned Shana in time before she got caught by the exploded Rinne, surprising Friagne. He unraveled Friagne's scheme, something which even Flame Haze and Crimson Denizens would normally struggle to perceive.
As a result, the plan to detonate Misaki City's Torches failed when Shana cast a Fūzetsu that obstructed the sound of Dance Party to reach the outside world. In the end, Dance Party was also destroyed by Shana when she used a shard of glass nearby to slice both the Treasure Tool and Friagne's fingers holding it on his left hand.[2]
In the anime[]
In the anime, Friagne dropped Dance Party when Shana threw a shard of glass at his right hand, where he was holding Trigger Happy and the fire protection ring Azure. The shard cut Friagne's fingers off and the scene changed to Dance Party, which he had held in his left hand, dropped to the ground and broke, possibly from the pain.[3]
In the movie[]
In the animated film, Shana threw a shard of glass at Friagne's left hand where he was holding Dance Party and Azure. He dropped Dance Party because the fingers holding it were cut. This adaptation is more accurate to the novel, but still pictures Shana throwing a shard of glass instead of using it as melee weapon.[4]
Trivia[]
- Dance Party would have likely been extremely effective against opponents like Tiriel, who uses Rinne Pinions to construct a battlefield advantageous to herself.
