Shakugan no Shana Wiki

The Contract Breach Incident (破約事件 Hayaku Jiken?) was a major incident that involved a group of Crimson Lords attacking on the negotiation site for the Sovereign's Game, the proxy war agreement between Crimson Denizen organizations. The incident and the following events ultimately led to the dissolution of the Sovereign's Game.

Background[]

The incident occurred in 1862, just a year before the outbreak of the Civil War. The conference among Player's representatives was held at an old castle in Austria to negotiate terms and evaluate their war records. As it was a conference under non-belligerency agreement, the representatives were defenseless against an ambush by a group of Crimson Lords, referring to themselves as Révolution, who annihilate all of them and stole their confidential information and Treasure Tools away.[1]

Aftermath[]

A few days after this major incident, the information which was obtained in the ambush, including numerous locations of those Players, were published as newspaper articles. Despite the unexpected developments, Flame Haze, who now knew the locations of their target of revenge, swiftly attacked these organizations. As these organizations did not know at the moment that their information was leaked, many were annihilated in the initial assaults. However, this later proved to be Flame Haze's fatal mistake.[1]

The attacks also provoked these Denizen organizations which had fallen into dire straits; they decided to retaliate by attacking Outlaw bases which they had known the locations all along but deliberately ignored them. These counterattacks did significant damages to Flame Haze's side as well, since they had allocated personnel to the United States to fight against the Four Gods of Earth in the Civil War, and thus was understaffed.[1][2] Many Outlaw bases were destroyed and Tessera were lost.[1]

Due to this incident, the Sovereign's Game was unable to hold meetings carelessly because the enemy's identity was unclear. Combining with the loss of many large organizations that were capable of settle the turmoil, this eventually led to its dissolution.[3]

Outlaw was also forced to focus on re-establishing their main bases after the Denizens' counterattacks; this significantly delayed its full-scale response to Révolution. Their war against the Révolution would drag out for about a hundred years until its eradication.[3]
