"Bridle of Wilderness" (曠野の手綱 Kōya no Tazuna?) is the Crimson Lord who is bound to Nam. Deviating from other Crimson Denizens, she does not use any alias during her stay in the Human World and never named her bridle-shaped Divine Vessel.[1] Thus she is only referred to by her true name. She is referred to by Khamsin as "Dragon Horse that Runs like Violent Wind" (風巻き奔る龍馬 Shimakibashiru Ryūma?).

Appearance[]

"Bridle of Wilderness" has a deep and calm voice.[2]

After Nam's death, "Bridle of Wilderness" took control of her body via the Divine Vessel. Nowadays, she wore a long Mongolian robe known as a Meng Pao (蒙袍?) and clad herself with bandages from head to toe, which makes her look like a mummy.

Personality[]

"Bridle of Wilderness" is kind and attentive to others. Due to her small stature (which was actually Nam's body) and her character, she is adored by many Flame Haze and even Crimson Denizens like the Hyakki Yakō.

Background[]

"Bridle of Wilderness" was one of the first Crimson Lords to make a contract with a human. Nam, her contractor, participated in the Ancient War, the war against the Snake of the Festival. Nam was killed by Illuyanka at the climax of the battle when the Creation God was being dragged into the Rift Between Both Worlds, resulting from the Eternal Pitfall. Nam was also affected by the spell; her consciousness was separated from her body and "Bridle of Wilderness" who resided within. Miraculously, the contract between a contractor and Crimson Lord was still retained.

As her contractor is considered "dead" from being trapped in the Rift Between Both Worlds, "Bridle of Wilderness" resumed controlling her lifeless contractor's body via the bridle-shaped Divine Vessel like a puppet.[1] She later became the director of Guyaku, an Outlaw branch in Central China. In the past three thousand years, it was led to believed that Nam was still alive and well, and her contracted Crimson Lord "Bridle of Wilderness" never spoke to anyone. Due to Nam having a young girl appearance, "Bridle of Wilderness" covered her entire body with clothes in order to hide and match with the voice of "Bridle of Wilderness" which was like an older woman's.

Plot[]

Prior to the main story's beginning, Guyaku was annihilated, along with Nam (or "Bridle of Wilderness" in truth), by Sabrac who wanted to use the place to lure Pheles, Johann and Wilhelmina Carmel into his trap. Losing her contractor's body in the attack, "Bridle of Wilderness" returned to the Crimson Realm.

After the creation of Xanadu, "Bridle of Wilderness" crossed over to the new world and became one of the Orderists. She is seen participating the reveal ceremony of Justus and is busy behind the Lord of the Seas' counter bar serving drinks to participants, mirroring what she had done at Guyaku.

Relationships[]

Her comrades, such as Wilhelmina and Pietro Monteverdi, and Crimson Denizens, such as Pheles and Hyakki Yakō's Para, affectionately call her "Grandma Nam" (ナム婆さん Namu baa-san?).

Quotes[]

(To Liu Yang, about the chance of Hyakki Yakō facing Wilhelmina Carmel): "That's unlikely, you know. When faced with someone formidable, those children would not fight. They would simply flee right away."

Trivia[]

  • Prior to the release of Shakugan no Shana no Subete Kan guidebook, it is led to believe that Nam was alive and well during the Juggle side story and her contracted Crimson Lord never speaks a word to anyone. However, it is revealed in the guidebook that it was actually her contracted Crimson Lord who controlled and posed as her contractor all along.[1]
