"Don't worry. I'll take responsibility and slaughter everyone."
—To Zarovee about their plan.

Bifrons (ビフロンス Bifuronsu?) was a Crimson Denizen and member of Bal Masqué. He was a Wanderer who usually worked with Zarovee, making contact with him by cellphone. His true name was "Howling Fang" (吼号呀 Kōgōga?).

Appearance[]

Second Ep 18 Bifrons full body

Bifrons' long body.

Bifrons has a chimney-like body, insectoid legs and a burning head that resembles a torture device, which makes him look like a giant, disfigured candle. He wraps himself in a Treasure Tool called Tarnkappe, which grants him the stealth in exchange for speed and mobility. When attacking, he becomes like a cannon.

Personality[]

Bifrons considers himself to be very powerful, not worrying about the possibilities of failure in their plan as Zarovee does, but he's considered to be unintelligent since he doesn't remember Yūji's name. He believes he would have no problems dealing with any trouble, but was easily defeated by Shana.

Background[]

In the exclusive Q&A chapter 'Friagne the Hunter III' from Volume SII, Bifrons answers about why he belongs to Bal Masqué; "I don't have any complaints as long as they provide the targets for massacring."

Bifrons had been paired with Zarovee for a long time.[1]

Plot[]

Scars from the Storm Arc[]

At night, Bifrons talks over the phone with Zarovee, who is at a railway. They talk about a reconnaissance plan. Bifrons hangs up and surprises Zarovee by coming up behind him. They talk about taking the Mystes that is a part of the Psalm of the Grand Order. Bifrons says that he will kill anyone that interferes in their plan. He leaves, with Zarovee following.[2]

"Destructive Blade" Arc[]

Bifrons cannon

Bifrons as a cannon absorbing rubble

While Zarovee and Yūji are walking through Misaki City, Bifrons was on top of a building, preparing to destroy the Flame Haze from far away. He begins destroying the building underneath him, absorbing the rubble. He waits for Zarovee's signal to attack, his Fūzetsu. He is surprised when Yūji activates his own Fūzetsu. After Zarovee gets killed, Bifrons charges his cannon at Yūji, Shana, and Wilhelmina. He fires upon Shana, only to have the cannonball shot down, and gets caught in the explosion.[3]

He barely survived but Sabrac, who had used him and Zarovee as decoys, forced him to attack with his full power. Bifrons perished after using all of his Power of Existence.[4] This was omitted from the anime.

Other Appearances[]

Anime Appearances[]

Shakugan no Shana-tan[]

In the seventh episode, there is a parody of Shakugan no Shana Second Episode 19, where Bifrons is absorbing rubble. He says he needs to blast his big thing soon or it'll explode. When Yūji and Shana-tan find him, Bifrons is sleeping. He wakes up before being killed by Shana-tan.[5]

Relationships[]

Zarovee[]

Bifrons seems to look down on Zarovee, due to him being a Wanderer and Zarovee being a Jaeger.

Powers and Abilities[]

Bifrons was skilled in destroying enemies from a long distance with projectiles made of surrounding rubble, shot from his cannon-like body.[3]

Treasure Tools[]

Gordian Knot (非常手段ゴルディアン・ノット Gorudian Notto?, lit. Emergency Measure): Bifrons possesses a Gordian Knot, which triggers after his death. When activated, Bifrons' Gordian Knot is capable of transporting someone to places of their advantage. This Treasure Tool is the main reason why Sabrac survived after his battle with Shana; Bifrons' Gordian Knot contains a special transportation-type of Power of Unrestraint that can transport him to a safe place.

Tarnkappe (タルンカッペ Tarunkappe?): Tarnkappe allows Bifrons to move without being detected by Flame Haze or other Crimson Denizens; even Zarovee, who coordinates missions with him, is incapable of noticing his arrival. Bifrons' movement will be slower than usual which will put him at a disadvantage if discovered by the naked eye. Tarnkappe takes the shape of a long black cape which covers Bifrons' slender body.

Quotes[]

  • (To Zarovee about their plan): "Don't worry. I'll take responsibility and slaughter everyone."[2]
