Aster (星 Asuteru , Japanese and Greek for "Star") was the primary Unrestricted Spell used by "Master Throne" Hecate, the Priestess of Bal Masqué's Trinity. It unleashed balls of light that were overly bright water-colored like Hecate's Flames.
Background[]
The balls of light flew wildly about at high speeds and with intricate curved trajectories. Dozens of balls could be fired at once, so they resembled a meteor swarm. When the balls hit their target, light scattered as an aftereffect, which led to the spreading of water-colored flames. On impact, it gave off an explosion, and the timing of the explosion could be controlled at will by the caster, so they could also choose to detonate the balls before impact.
Aster could be activated by ringing the large staff Treasure Tool Trigon, but could also be activated while in combat, and even without Trigon at all. Hecate could also use a version of Aster with suppressed power and scale with her bare hands,[1] though she could also unleash the full-powered Aster with her bare hands too.
In the anime, Aster displayed tremendous destructive power, creating a gigantic explosion and mushroom cloud when landing in the Misaki City metropolitan area.[2] Traveling down the Path of Pilgrimage, Hecate used Aster to pulverize Colored Silhouettes.[3]
Trivia[]
- While Aster is the Greek word for star, it could also be a reference to Asteria, a Titan goddess from Greek mythology who, according to the poet Hesiod, is the mother of the goddess Hecate.
